EUA prices down by almost 10%

Prices of EU carbon allowances (EUAs) fell by almost 10% in the first trading session of 2012 in London, tracking weaker German power.

The EUA futures contract for December 2012 delivery finished at € 6.60 on ICE Futures Europe, down 72 cents (9.8%) on the previous close on December 30.

Carbon prices fell to € 6.50 shortly before closing, the lowest level since December 19.

EUAs were tracking weaker German power prices which headed south on warmer weather in Europe.

German 2013 baseload power trading on the European Energy Exchange (EEX) ended down 28 cents at € 52.05 per MWh.

Germany sols today in a weekly auction on EEX 300,000 spot EUAs at € 6.31.

On BlueNext in Paris, the EUA spot contract lost 68 cents (9.9%) to € 6.22.
