Send messageBlueNext, based in Paris, is the most liquid spot market for European Union Allowances (EUAs) in Europe. The exchange was created by NYSE Euronext and Caisse des Dépots on January 22, 2008. Earlier, it was operating as Powernext Carbon – one of the Powernext’s markets.
Powernext introduced the EUA spot contract for the first phase of the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), which covered the years 2005-2007, on June 14, 2005. Trading in those contracts took place until April 25, 2008.
BlueNext offers the EUA spot contract for the second phase of the EUA ETS (2008-2012) since February 26, 2008, and the spot contract on Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) since August 12, 2008. Moreover, the exchange offers the EUA futures contract (since April 21, 2008) and the CER futures contract (since June 2, 2008).
BlueNext’s clearing house is LCH Clearnet. The exchange has more than 100 members.
